Content Marketing for Today’s SEO
Most people in the search world know by now that link building is out, content is king and content can be anything – products, blogs articles, lists, videos, images and more. But how do you go about creating quality content strategically?
You can’t just swipe info from other sources and plug them into your blog and gain traffic. Well, really you could, but this action could really damage your organic traffic! Stealing content and repurposing it is quite frowned upon by the search engines. Don’t take our word for it – Here’s a quick video from Matt Cutts from Google, probably the only real search engine guru. Original and useful content creation can be rewarded by search engines, but also an incredible opportunity to be a resource for your customers. Our suggestion is to dig deep.
Since Google’s Hummingbird updates, they are looking to reward in depth information. They said, “Users often turn to Google to answer a quick question, but research suggests that up to 10% of users’ daily information needs involve learning about a broad topic.” Sure, it’s only 10% now, but only Google knows what they will value in the future. In any case, the goal remains the same – your content should be more than keyword stuffing and stolen news. Provide information that will truly enhance your customer’s and potential customer’s experience can be quite powerful and enhance your products, brand and company loyalty.
Let’s get started:
- Be consistent – schedule yourself for an achievable goal, say, once a week? Every two weeks? Whatever you can manage that will produce quality information.
- Talk to your customers – what do your clients or customers want from you? How can you be a better resource?
- Keyword research – focus on keywords that already get customers to your site. Use your analytics or Google keyword planner to create content that hits on keywords useful to your business.
- Share content – across your website, social media, newsletters – all that content that you painstakingly put together deserves an audience!
- Mark it up – Use Schema markup on articles, Use Google+ profiles to show authorship. Let google help you by displaying your logo. Take advantage of the way google makes results stand out. You did the work, after all.
